Les algues

The objective of the algae management plan is to preserve the stock, organize the activity, preserve the jobs, increase the value of the product through management measures that incorporate the determination of the fishing effort, fishing area and biological rest. In 2010, support instruments were established to ensure compliance with the measures introduced by the management plan.

Management measures

The algae management plan sets the following principles:

  • Prohibition of harvesting algae of the floridae family, from 1st October to 30 June of each year;
  • Prohibition of Algae harvesting during the night;
  • The collection of detached algae on the coasts is authorized, their uprooting is strictly forbidden;
  • Establishment of the traceability system of algae and agar agar along marketing channels from production to export;
  • Submission of raw algae and agar agar to the export licensing regime;
  • Establishment of an export quota for algae and agar agar: 80% of this resource is valorized via the national processing industry (Agar Agar), thus enabling the generation of greater added value of 20 % of exports in the raw state.

  • Order of the Minister of Agriculture and Maritime Fisheries No. 1906-10 of 29 June 2010 regulating the fishing and collection of algae «Agarophytes" of category A in the Nador Lagoon (Sebkha Bou Areg);
  • Foreign Trade Order No. 1934.10 of 24 Rajab 1431 (7 July 2010) supplementing Decree No. 1308-94 of 7 Kaada 1414 (19 April 1994) establishing the list of goods is the subject to quantitative restriction exporting measures, supporting the submission of raw algae and agar agar to the export licensing system.
