The shrimp fishery management plan, implemented since 1 January 2011 and revised for the 2013 season, aims to guarantee the recovery of the shrimp stock and ensure a rational and sustainable exploitation of this resource. This, through the revision of the current management method and its adaptation to the fishery specificities and the particularities of each of the fishing segments involved in the fishery (the offshore and coastal fleet). This plan introduces short-term emergency measures and other long-term measures.
Management measures
The main short-term measures concern the protection of spawning grounds and shrimp recruitment areas by halting fishing activity and setting up cantonment zones. The plan fixes :
- Authorized fishing area;
- Managed species;
- The distance of the authorized coast;
- Periods and areas of fishing closing;
- Authorized fishing gear;
- The authorized size.
The long-term measures will consolidate the aforementioned emergency measures, through the implementation of a quota system applicable to all vessels operating in the shrimp fishery.
